Cryoablation for Prostate Cancer

The precision made possible by percutaneous cryosurgery is ideal for treating some prostate cancers, in which the target site is tightly confined and surrounded by nerves that affect urinary control and erectile function.

Who is a candidate for prostate cancer cryosurgery?

Percutaneous cryosurgery is suitable for patients with localized cancer that is confined to the prostate and is regarded as an effective alternative to radiation therapy. Because it is difficult, even with multiple cryoprobes, to completely freeze a prostate larger than 50 centimeters, physicians may recommend that a patient with an enlarged prostate undergo a course of hormonal therapy to reduce the gland's size before considering cryosurgery.

Leading-edge therapy

In addition to percutaneous cryoablation for prostate cancer, our highly skilled urologists also offer these ablative treatments for benign prostate enlargement:
  • Button plasma vaporization of the benign prostate
